Description

Pockets is a personal finance app designed to help users manage their money by eliminating the "illusion of wealth."

The app solves the common psychological trap of spending money that is actually destined for bills simply because it is sitting in a visible lump sum.

The goal

By separating committed funds from spendable cash, Pockets aims to reduce financial anxiety, prevent the accumulation of debt, and help those living paycheck to paycheck achieve stability without requiring a high level of financial expertise.

Core functionality

  • Virtual Budgeting ("Pockets"): Users can immediately earmark funds for specific needs (rent, bills, or savings) as soon as they receive their paycheck.

  • Spendable Balance Visibility: The app prioritizes showing the user only what they have actually available to spend, keeping "tied up" money out of sight to reduce the need for constant willpower.

  • Behavioral Reminders: It uses timely notifications to encourage users to move money into their pockets the moment they are paid, building long-term financial habits.

  • Familiar Interface: Designed to look and feel like a standard banking app to reduce friction, displaying accounts, credit cards, and transaction histories in a clean, "block-based" layout.
